Pavement Recycling and Stabilisation - Intro & Applications

Pavement Recycling and Stabilisation

            - Introduction and Applications

Wednesday 5th July 2023, 10:00 am – 11:30 am ACST Via Zoom

Session 1 will provide an introduction to pavement recycling and stabilisation, the industry and companies involved, the experts across Australia, the projects that are happening across Australia, the relationship to pavement sustainability and resilience and the innovation and range of treatment options currently being delivered and those that are emerging.  Innovation is key for Australia to be at the forefront of reducing emissions and deployment of recycling alternatives to supplant virgin material extraction, with similar or better product performance characteristics. Innovation is important not only in relation to new materials, equipment, and machinery, but also sustainability and safety.

Simon Abrahams, National Manager Pavements and Rehabilitation at Downer

Simon Abrahams is Downer's National Manager for Pavements. The purpose of stabilisation is to recycle or rehabilitate the existing material in situ, thereby upgrading the engineering and economic values of the existing pavement or ground conditions. Downer’s pavement stabilisation and rehabilitation service enables existing pavements to be recycled, and when compared to conventional rehabilitation techniques, can provide cost and environmental benefits. The process consists of reviewing the initial client design, sampling, laboratory testing and then an infield trial section completed with the specified stabilisation treatment. These treatments are all customised based on the customer's site, and Simon will discuss the range of treatment options that can be employed based on current and emerging technologies.
